How to Verify Product Certifications From Chinese Suppliers
Check whether a supplier's CE, FCC or other compliance documents match the manufacturer, model, components and target market before ordering.
A supplier certificate is useful only when it can be traced to the correct manufacturer, product model, technical configuration and target-market requirement.
The common document mismatch
Buyers often receive a certificate or test report that looks professional but does not cover the exact product being ordered. The document may belong to another company, a similar model, an older component configuration or a different radio module and power supply.
Compliance requirements also vary by market and product. A mark printed on packaging is not a substitute for determining which rules apply to the finished product, its battery, wireless functions, charger, materials and labeling.
What to verify before paying a deposit
Review at least:
- legal manufacturer and applicant names;
- product and model numbers;
- photographs and technical description;
- standards and report dates;
- laboratory identity and report number;
- critical components listed in the report;
- destination-market labeling and documentation;
- whether customization changes the tested configuration.
Where an issuing body or laboratory provides an online database, the report number should be checked there. When online verification is not available, the buyer may need confirmation from the issuing organization or a qualified compliance specialist.
